UNIBO, the oldest university in Western Europe, was founded in 1088 and still remains one of the most important institutions of higher education across Europe with more than 100.000 enrolled students.
The Department of Industrial Engineering (DIN) participates to this project through the research group for Industrial Applications of Plasmas, headed by Prof. Vittorio Colombo. In the last 20 years, this group has developed and validated numerical codes for the simulation of thermal plasma sources for most relevant industrial applications, i.e. nanopowder synthesis, thermal spray, cutting and welding, waste treatment.
UNIBO will mainly be involved in modelling of the plasma processes for the synthesis of nanocopper. Modelling will provide fundamental understanding of the synthesis process and it will support process design and scaling up. UNIBO will be also involved in dissemination activities.
